Stainforth Construction have completed a £3.9m retail park on behalf of Consolidated Properties Ltd. Located 7 miles from Sheffield city centre, Drakehouse Retail Park forms part of a masterplan to transform a former college site which adjoins Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre & Retail Park.
The site is occupied by Aldi, Costa Coffee, Greggs, Frankie and Benny’s and the discount store Home Bargain and includes 150 car-parking spaces and a drive-through coffee shop.
Oliver Quarmby, managing director of developers St James Securities, said that around 500 jobs have been created by the development. He said: “There is a real need for a development like this, as people living in the area were previously getting in their cars and driving across the city for this type of facility.”
Mr Quarmby added; “Our vision is that families can come for retail, leisure, sport, fun and food all in one car journey.” He said the response to the development so far had been positive.
Agent Steven Abbott Associates, on behalf of Consolidated Property Group, said the development was based on high quality architecture and that the retail park provides ‘many permanent jobs’ for local residents. This will inevitably improve the rate of unemployment in the area which was reported to be at 7.8% in 2013.
